Make Something Unreal Live 2013 Winners
Epic announced the winners of the 2013 Make Something Unreal Live contest. Amazingly, top honors went to a game called Epigenesis that looks very much like Unreal Tournament 2003's Bombing Run. I could find a single video of the gameplay to show you what I mean:
Congratulations to developer Dead Shark Triplepunch who walks away with an Unreal Engine license for the game.
In a surprise move, the judges also awarded a license to the second place game, Polymorph, by developer Kairos. All finalists got a generous helping of hardware from the sponsors.
Warframe Reaches 1M Players
Warframe, the new free-to-play 'space ninja' third person shooter from our good friends at Digital Extremes, has surpassed the 1 million player mark. Pretty impressive! It is currently in open beta form and available on Steam.
Warframe has been gaining momentum as the next gen Free-to-Play title to watch since October when its Closed Beta began. Bringing a AAA quality gaming experience to the Free-to-Play market has been one of the goals for the development team from the outset. Between the impressive graphics, solid fine-tuned gameplay and regular content and feature updates, Warframe has more than exceeded fan and team expectations to date.
Attributing to its quick success, Digital Extremes has viewed the emerging Free-to-Play segment as a true opportunity to reconnect directly with gamers. Maintaining development transparency and regular interaction with its community is part of the team's design philosophy that has truly paid off in establishing a solid, loyal fan base that is growing in droves alongside the game.

Remember back in July when Tencent brought that 'minority' stake in Epic Games?
Well it turns out it's not so small. Tencent recently released their annual results for their year which ended at the which reveals the stake they own in Epic stands at 48.4%, a $330,000,000 investment in the company. It also shows that Tencent have the ability to nominate directors to the board.

Mike Capps Leaves Epic
Not only has Cliff Bleszinki recently left Epic games but now Mike Capps has also said fairwell to the company as a change of management is now taking place.
Epic have officially commented saying:
"When Mike Capps retired last year, he stayed on the board in an advisory role. As we've been mapping out the future for the new Epic Games, we decided it was best to get a fresh start with the new management. We thank Mike for his years of service at Epic and we wish him well in retirement and fatherhood."
Mike Capps has also announced over on his Facebook page:
"So what's next for me? Games have been so good to me, and I'm delighted to have the time to give back. I'm a member of several game industry boards, and I'm proud to serve as an advocate for our art in Washington," wrote Capps on Facebook this evening. "I'm considering seats on a few company and advisory boards, as well as options for teaching at one of the world-class universities in the North Carolina Triangle area. And mostly, I'm focused on being a new dad in a few short weeks."
So what does it mean for Epic Games as there has been a big change at the top...
