Mapping Contest U4E Forum FAQ Betas U4E Servers: Hot Beef's U4E Server- ahk.dyndns.org |
01/20/2004 Version 2 Delayed (by MaxSMoke) I won't even mention Version 2 in this post, since it's still under construction. Too many special features being added, IMHO, but it's all for the betterment of U4E, so I can't complain. Anyways, here's a screenshot of the first monster that will be included with U4E-Gateways. Since we're not happy with the way the UT monsters in Invasion look and act, we're going to make our own beasts. (This isn't the reason Version 2 is being delayed, I swear!) This is the Blood Worm, our very first monster. It's our "test case", to help us understand how monsters work in UT. Hopefully it will be the blueprint for dozens of future U4E monsters. And no, you won't see this in Version 2. We're still a few months from having U4E-Gateways ready for public release. This is more of a Teaser... (Aren't I Evil?)
06/01/2004 UPDATE (by UTIMER) With the MSU deadline coming closer and closer we are working harder and harder to make U4E everything we want it to be. As a part of that we are building a brand new mutator GUI, giving the user all the power he or she wants to have over the weapon-placement. Below are some W.I.P. shots of the op coming MSU version:
But that is not all we are working on! We will also add a brand new weapon to our collection, the hellsaw 2!
Our next version 3 will be another jump for U4E, here is a quick run down of what is new:
02/24/2004 U4E2k3 Version 2 Released! (by MaxSMoke) The Version 2 is finally Officially ready for download! Click any of these links to download our mod. Most people should use Umod, except for Mac users and other people having trouble with Umods. (Umods are self installing files, so all you need to do is double click on it when the download is complete and it will install itself for you!): U4E2k3 Version 2
in Umod Format Here's a quick rundown of everything you'll find inside. Version 2 weapons:
That's a total of 16 weapons, 5 of which are completely new, 1 new mutator, a new mod menu, plus enough enhancements to fill a phonebook! But why read all of this junk??? Download the Mod and see for yourself! Note: If you use U4E on networks against others, please read the "U4E2k3-v2-Networkbuglist2.txt" first. 03/20/2004 U4E-2k4? (by MaxSMoke) Here's a little teaser for those of you who recently purchased UT2k4, and those of you planning on it soon. Check out what's lifting this tank into the air.... 04/22/2004 MSU (by UTIMER) It has been a looonnnggg while but our entry to the MSU phase 2 has been judged, and here are the results: MUTATOR FINALISTS Excessive Satore Monster Pack Remote Strike Systemic NeverSleep Bugs Weapons of Evil SwitchArsenal Unreal4Ever AngelFire xClass Arkon Weapons More Information 06/07/2004 U4E2k4 MSU Release! (by MaxSMoke) The MSU contest release of U4E is finally available for download! Now you too can enjoy the creamy goodness of 3 new monsters, 2 new gametypes, 4 mutators, 1 new Vehicle, and over 2 dozen Bad-Azz weapons including the return of our two classic Overkill weapons; The Dollbomb and the BFG2k4! And you're going to need that Firepower too, because also making it's triumphant return is the remake of our classic U4E-Gauntlet gametype, now called U4E Gateways! Just in case you aren't familiar with our masterpiece that's spawned so many imitators, this carnage fest pits you against a handful of very tough Interdimentional Gateways that produce an unlimited stream of monsters for as long as they are active. Destroy the Gateways and you stop the monsters. And our Monsters can't see through walls, unlike Epic's clone, "Invasion". You can use these lulls in combat to load up and plan your attack. It takes more then a quick Trigger finger to survive this lot. But it can be done, and more importantly, you CAN actually WIN this game! U4E Gateways is available in two flavors, normal and Extra-Nutty, "Vehicle Gateways"! Vehicle Gateways allows you to use Onslaught maps and vehicles to aid you in your assault on the endless monsters. Do you think a Tank can easily stop a rampaging horde of ticked off monsters? You'd be surprised how fast a swarm of Flies can cut through armor!
Unreal4Ever 2k4 MSU Release - Umod Version 06/17/2004 U4E Monster Collection (by MaxSMoke) We've been taking feedback from the MSU release and applying it to Version 3, especially in our new Gametype, U4E-Gateways. Hopefully we'll be able to make both Gateway gametypes even more action packed, well at the same time reducing the system resources they use. Also, FrozenCow is working on a new weapon called the Construction Gun. We'll post more details about that when they become available. In the meantime I put together a nice cheesecake shot of some of the monsters in the current beta of Gateways.
06/13/2004 Gun Walker Tease (by MaxSMoke) We're still hard at work on Version 3's upcoming release. Oh, you thought the MSU release was Version 3? NOPE! We had to leave out alot of cool stuff, just because we ran out of time. But have no fear, hopefully within a month, you'll be able to get your mits on a Finely Tuned V3 release, completely with Hellsaw and alot of other extras that are hinted at in the MSU release, but not implemented. Here's a little sample of a new beasty that will be in V3, the Gun Walker!
07/28/2004 Still Working (by MaxSMoke) Work on U4E is slowly progressing. Utimer is working on improvements for Gateways, Holger is revamping some existing weapons to make them work better, and FrozenCow is working hard on the new ConGun. The ConGun, which stands for Construction Gun, will be a part of U4E's V3 release. This device creates useful objects and structures for the battlefield. Here's some samples of the weapon itself and some of the items it can create. 08/12/2004 News Update (by UTIMER) There has been a slight lack off updates, so I think its time for me to tell what we are doing, and why there isn’t a new beta full of new toys. Make Something Unreal Contest As most of you know we won the MSU contest. We got 1st price in the mutator category. More information can be found on the unreal tournament site. Upcoming in our next release 2 Brand new gametypes, 1 new weapon, and tons of small fixes or changes. The new gametypes are build-CTF and Monster Master. 1 in which you must build your base so its strong enough to out hold against the enemy. 1 in which you must capture monsters that you will later have to use to kill your enemies! The new weapon is the hellsaw, featuring a grapple hook and nice fast spinning saw. More info on all this can be found in our forums! Mapping Contest In the short future we will be organizing a new mapping competition for everybody to join. We will use a part of our contest money as price money. More details on this later! 09/10/2004 U4E V3 MSU Release (by MaxSMoke) Another MSU Contest deadline has been thrust upon us, which of course means yet another U4E release! This release is so new, I haven't even had a chance to play it yet! In fact, the file isn't even done mirroring on the public servers, as of 4:30pm PST. But it will be soon, so get it and play it. And, of course, expect a patch or two in the near future. You know how these deadlines are. Drop into the U4E Forum to leave some feedback and hopefully we'll have a more complete release in the near future. (Hopefully before the next MSU deadline!)
FPS Finalists: 11/17/2004 Version 4 released! (by UTIMER) For a change we finally got a non-MSU version out! Although this is the version that entered the grand finals, its not written for the MSU, but for you to have fun! New features in this release include:
And of course all of the other weapons/vehicles/gametypes/monsters/etc you got used too overtime! Please note, this release REQUIRES the ECE Bonus Pack! 12/02/2004 U4E Needs a PR Guy (by MaxSMoke) Unreal4Ever Team is in desperate need of a Public Relations person that can handle promoting and educating people about U4E. I\'ve written up a nice description of this job and posted it here: 01/31/2005 U4E 2D Beta (by MaxSMoke) Woot! It's Release Day again! Get Ready to experience Unreal4Ever from a whole new perspective with U4E-2D! This new gametype addition to U4E takes our mod Old Skool with a Side-Scrolling perspective. Better yet, you can play all UT and U4E gametypes in this perspective from Deathmatch to Gateways. It's based on K0lpA's 2D Tournament and is compatible with all existing 2D maps. Of course, this is a beta, so it's still not flawless. Please visit our Forums to leave feedback and bugs you may encounter. And, on an unrelated note, I recently completely paid off the Sony PSP for the U4E Mapping contest. For any of you that might be interested, here's a shot of the receipt (I blacked out all of the Serial Numbers): Now, I just need to come up with another $50 to pay off my PSP as well! (I got 2 on reserve) We're still looking for a 3rd place prize, but if all goes well, we will have $25 to $50 for 3rd place, and $50 to $100 for 2nd available by the contest deadline, March 15th. 3rd and 2nd place winners will get their money via PayPal or I'll just mail them a Money Order. There's still lots of room available in this contest! And you are allowed to enter more then 1 map. A good map maker could take home all 3 prizes if he/she can blow away our current competitor. 12/28/2004 New beta again (by UTIMER) Well we're still in the process of making Version 5 of Unreal4Ever, we wanted to give you all something new to play with in the meantime. Presenting the U4E Xmas beta! Ok, it's more like a New Years beta at this point, but I still think you'll find our new Snowman monster very festive! Also inside you'll find numerous fixes, the BugGun and the updated Compound Bow. With so much cool stuff, you'll forgive Santa for being a few days late!
-01/08/2005 U4E Mapping Contest (by MaxSMoke) 02/04/2005 New U4E Mapping Contest Deadline (by MaxSMoke) As you may have heard, Sony has finally announced an official release date for the PSP, March 24th. And likewise, the U4E Mapping contest's deadline will also be pushed back to March 25th. On the upside, the PSP won't come alone, but instead come as part of a "Value" pack. Sony is making the $250 Value Pack mandatory, so the contest PSP will also come with headphones, 32MB Memory Stick Duo, Headphones, and a Copy of Spiderman 2 in UMD format. If our winner happens to be one of the 5 PEOPLE ON EARTH that haven't seen Spiderman 2, you'll get to watch it on your brand new Sony PSP. :p I still have to come up with another $50 to officially pay off the Contest's PSP. You can all thank my work on There.com for supporting this contest. Log in sometime, buy a couch from me! (MaxSMoke777) 03/03/2005 TSS Sarah Lane for UT2k4 (by MaxSMoke) The Screensavers, one of my favorite TV shows, had a contest to see who could do the most interesting thing with a 3D model of one of the hosts of the show, the lovely Sarah Lane. The model was in Maya, and I don't have Maya, but it occured to me that if I could get it in 3D Studio Max, I could turn her into a player model. So, with a little help from Robert Lansdale and his PolyTrans software I was able to get a 3D Max version. I figured, even if they didn't like it, it would at least help me improve my skills for some future U4E player models. It took about 20 hours and alot of tweaking, but the model worked and I was even able to make some team skins. Here's the model. I'll have to check my Tivo to see if they showed it on air, or not. TSS Sarah Lane for UT2k4 (She's in Zip format, so you'll have to install the files in the correct directory by hand!) On a completely different subject, a few days ago I put down the last of the $270 down-payment on the US Sony PSP for the U4E Mapping Contest. That means we OFFICIALLY have a Sony PSP ready for the winner of our mapping contest. Utimer vouched $50 for the 2nd place, and another $25 for the 3rd place. Just in case you haven't heard, we're looking for maps that really take advantage of U4E's insane arsenal. We're accepting New and Existing maps. Read the Registration page and visit our forums for more details. If you haven't started making your map yet, you had Better Hurry! The Deadline is officially March 24th, the release date of the US Sony PSP. 03/07/2005 U4E Map Contest Ends in 2 Weeks! (by MaxSMoke) This is a friendly reminder that there's a mere 17 days left in the U4E Mapping Contest. That's only a little over 2 weeks to complete work on your map. So far the entries have been light, and I haven't seen any beta maps posted for feedback. I'd hate to think our contest would end before it even began. The Deadline is March 24th. If you've been thinking about entering but you've been putting it off, now's the time to get cracking! 1st Place - A North American Sony PSP Value Pack 2nd Place - $50 in Cash (via PayPal or Money Order) 3rd Place - $25 in Cash - Deadline March 24th! - 03/26/2005 U4E Mapping Contest Delayed (by MaxSMoke) We're going to extend the deadline for the contest another week. There were only about 8 maps entered, a rather underwelming turnout. There were 16 registered people, so half the people didn't even upload their map entry into our competition. If you were preparing a map and then gave up, now's a good time to pickup that neglected map and give it another go. You're odds of winning are very good, considering how few people you are playing against. 04/10/2005 U4E Mapping Contest Results! (by MaxSMoke) We're pleased to announce the winners of the 2nd U4E Mapping Contest. This time around entries were sparse, but some nice maps did manage to sneak in. Here's the Winners in Order of Magnitude: First Place: VCTF-U4E-SterlingFlood by Dan "WinkyBoy" Overlander Second Place: DM-U4E-Annwyn by Rich_Zap Third Place: DM-U4E-Fairyland-SE by Voodar1uS We still need to verify that everything used in these maps had proper permissions, but after that, the winners will receive the following: First Place Winkyboy will get a Brand New Sony PSP Second Place Rich_Zap will receive $50 via PayPals Third Place Voodar will receive $25 via PayPals We'll have all of the contest entries available for download soon on Beyond Unreal's servers. In the meantime you can download the maps directly from the authors from the links in the U4E Mapping Contest Page. 05/05/2005 Almost Ready... (by MaxSMoke) We're almost ready to release a new version of U4E. We have so many new features, monsters, and stuff, it's hard to keep track of them all. Remember, if you want to keep up on the absolute latest in U4E developments, please visit our forums. This is also an excellent place to request new features or report bugs. Here's a little sample of what's coming out soon! In U4E related news, Winkyboy got his spanking brand new PSP several days ago. He's already put it inside of a hideous blue cover. Here's a photo of him with his prize, looking all victorious and.. um... happy? See the map that won him that new handheld game system, vCTF-U4E-SterlingFlood. 07/17/2005 More U4E Beta Testing... (by MaxSMoke) We just can't stop adding new stuff! Also we're doing alot of bug fixes to, but that all times up more and more time, so we've fallen a bit behind our original goal to make a new release every month. Right now we're testing the latest beta candidate, and assuming we don't go and add yet ANOTHER new feature, this one should be close to the final. You can either wait it out patently, or just download the beta right now. You can read about the release in the Forum post I made, or download and test it right here. 09/29/2005 We're Still Alive.... (by MaxSMoke) It may not seem it, but U4E is still active. Actually, we're more in a sort of holding pattern. FrozenCow and Utimer are deeply mired in their new school year, leaving Version 5 painfully close to release and yet not done. Very few online bugs remain to be tackled and some minor graphical issues need to be addressed. We even have a new vehicle we're hoping to put in and get feedback on, but again, nothing can be done until our coding duo have some free time again. I'm way past school age, but I have some of my own things to deal with, and there's not much need for art without any code to back it up. Once our coders get some more time off, and finish off Version 5's release, I hoping we can jump into some new monsters and weapons. After you see U4E's monsters with fully working Karma and the other updates to Gateways, I think you too will long for more monsters to vanquish! Karma monster deaths are truly a wonderful thing to behold. For the most up-to-date information, please visit the U4E Forums. 03/25/2006 Programmers are MIA (by MaxSMoke) Sorry for the lack of news, but when there's nothing to say, there's nothing to say. Utimer and FrozenCow have been out of contact with me for awhile now. Holger disappeared long before that and Sonic is still away on his sabbatical. So that pretty much leaves just me. I'm not even too sure how I could continue, even with another coder to fill in, since Utimer has the last version of U4E. Until somebody's available to do the code, there just won't be any U4E development. Some of the best new toys, like Punchy the Tank, remain uncoded. It's not the first time U4E has been in hold well waiting for code, hopefully it won't be the last. If something changes, you'll hear it here first. |
